Introduction:
Water is the lifeblood of any civilization, but for millions in rural Pakistan, this commodity is a luxury. The country is a cultivated civilization; however, despite all the technology and modernity, the water problem is worse. It is believed that if the past strategies continued, the country would face a complete water shutdown in 2025. The situation is worse in rural areas, where clean water is known to be a luxury. There are old hand pumps, wells that are highly contaminated, and temporary streams that provide nothing for clean water.Â
Amanatdaar Welfare Trust has taken the challenge of transforming this reality. They are working tirelessly to restore clean water through several means in rural areas. They have designed creative solutions, water projects to stream water in an unregulated area.Â
The Hand-Pump Legacy: A Double-Edged Sword:
Hand-pumps have been the favorite option for tapping groundwater in rural Pakistan. While they offer an inexpensive means of water recapture, they are plagued by disadvantages:
Contamination risk: The majority of hand-pumps draw water from shallow aquifers that can easily be contaminated on the surface.
Seasonal drying: The hand pumps are useless in dry seasons, as the water level drops during that time of year.Â
Health Risks: The community can get water-borne diseases and infections by using water from a hand pump. The water from there is full of bacteria, arsenic, and poisonous substances.Â
Amanatdaar Welfare Trust: A Beacon of Hope:
Deep bore wells tap lower, cleaner aquifers than the conventional hand-pumps. Deep bore wells are equipped with electric or solar-powered pumps that maintain the water supply consistent even during periods of drought.
Community-level filtration plants have been installed by the Trust removing toxic pollutants from water. Reverse osmosis eliminates the impurities and UV treatment further purifies water to the level of WHO standards.
Where rain occurs seasonally, Amanatdaar Welfare Trust promotes rainwater harvesting. This system collects the rainwater and purifies it. The purified water is served as clean drinking water or for watering fields.Â
They provide educational programs to the civilization on the importance and conservation of water. They teach them how to store or utilize the water. This makes sure that locals are ready to make long-term efforts.Â
Conclusion:
The water crisis in rural areas is the biggest problem. However, the initiative to provide clean water has shifted civilization from handpumps to other means. Amanatdaar Welfare Trust has started this change, and they do not have to do it alone.Â
